An Act To Establish a Central Concealed Handgun Permit Database

Sec. 1. 25 MRSA §2007  is enacted to read:

§ 2007.  Concealed handgun permit database

The Commissioner of Public Safety shall establish and maintain an online concealed handgun permit database within the Department of Public Safety that is continuously accessible by law enforcement, courts and bail commissioners for the purpose of tracking concealed handgun permits and the status of those permits. Information contained in the database must be updated on an ongoing basis to ensure its accuracy.

The issuing authority shall provide the Commissioner of Public Safety information related to concealed handgun permits issued, according to rules adopted by the commissioner, for the purpose of maintaining the concealed handgun permit database. Rules adopted pursuant to this section are routine technical rules as defined in Title 5, chapter 375, subchapter 2-A.
