Rep. Rebecca Millett is serving her first term in the Maine House of Representatives, after serving eight years in the Maine Senate, representing Cape Elizabeth. She serves on the state’s Education and Cultural Affairs committee.

Rep. Millett grew up in Maine and attended Portland public schools. After graduating college, serving in the Peace Corps, and working in finance in New York, Rep. Millett moved home to Maine in 2000. Upon returning to Maine, she served on the Cape Elizabeth School Board from 2004 to 2010, and co-founded a citizens’ advocacy group to support advancements in local education.

Rep. Millett is founder and co-chair of the legislature's Children Caucus, serves on the Children's Cabinet Early Childhood Advisory Committee and the New England Board of Higher Education and co-chairs the Legislative Advisory Committee.

She lives in Cape Elizabeth with her husband. Her son and daughter are seniors in college. She loves hiking, backpacking and skiing with her family and studies piano.

Rep. Millett is a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs and the Standing Committee of the House Leaves of Absence.

Brief description of the subject matter handled by the committee: Department of Education; State Board of Education; school finance, governance and administration; school budgets; school facilities; curriculum, instruction and assessment; teachers and administrators; special education and child development services; education of deaf and hard-of-hearing students; career and technical education; alternative education, school choice and home schooling; truancy and dropouts; educational services at juvenile correctional facilities; adult education; Maine Education Policy Research Institute; University of Maine System; Maine Community College System; Maine Maritime Academy; postsecondary education finance and governance; student assistance programs at Finance Authority of Maine; and cultural affairs, including Maine Arts Commission, Maine State Library, Maine State Museum and Maine Public Broadcasting Corporation.
