| | | Sec. 1. 22 MRSA §1712-A is enacted to read: |

| | | §1712-A.__Retention of health care records |
|
| | | 1.__Records to be retained.__A hospital licensed by the State | | under this Title or a health care practitioner, as provided in | | section 1711-B, shall retain records regarding the health care | | services provided by the hospital or practitioner as follows: |
|
| | | A.__Records of a person 18 years of age or older must be | | retained for 3 years; and |
|
| | | B.__Records of a person under 18 years of age must be | | retained for 6 years. |
|
| | | This bill requires health care records to be retained by | | health care practitioners and hospitals for 3 years for adults | | and 6 years for minors. |
