Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. Elderly low cost drug program income eligibility and sliding scale copayment study
and report. The Department of Human Services shall study the
determination of eligibility for the elderly low cost drug
program and the imposition of copayments on a sliding scale. By
January 1, 2000, the department shall report to the Joint
Standing Committee on Health and Human Services on eligibility
and sliding scale copayments. The report must include
recommendations for legislation and the adoption of rules to
establish income eligibility beginning at $11,000 for an
individual and $14,000 for a family of 2 persons, effective July
1, 2000.

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill directs the Department of Human Services to study
income eligibility and sliding scale copayments in the elderly
low cost drug program. The bill requires a report containing
recommendations for legislation and rulemaking.
