Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §1001, sub-§15 is enacted to read:

15.__Training in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.__ They shall require teachers, school bus drivers, other school employees and school contract employees who have extended, daily contact with students to be currently certified in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.__The department may adopt rules establishing the categories of employees covered by this requirement and identifying courses that satisfy the requirement.__ Rules adopted under this subsection are routine technical rules as defined in Title 5, chapter 375, subchapter II-A.__The requirement imposed by this subsection applies to all covered school employees beginning in the 2000-2001 school year.

SUMMARY

This bill requires school boards to enforce a policy beginning in the 2000-2001 school year that school personnel who have regular contact with students be certified in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
