Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 23 MRSA §1913-A, sub-§1, ¶¶G and H, as enacted by PL 1981, c.
318, §3, are amended to read:

 
G. Hand-held or similar signs not affixed to the ground or
buildings; and

 
H. Signs bearing political messages relating to an
election, primary or referendum, provided that these signs
may not be placed within the right-of-way prior to 6 weeks
before the election, primary or referendum to which they
relate and must be removed by the candidate or political
committee not later than one week thereafter.; and

 
Sec. 2. 23 MRSA §1913-A, sub-§1, ¶I is enacted to read:

 
I.__Signs advertising a person or business that employs
fewer than 20 persons.__Each such person or business is
limited to one sign, which may not exceed 4 feet by 8 feet.__
This sign may be erected only on private property upon the
authorization of the property owner and must be within one
mile of the business.

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill allows a person or business that employs fewer than
20 persons to place a sign on private property within one mile of
the business.
