| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows: |

| | Sec. 1. 17-A MRSA §2, sub-§14-A is enacted to read: |
|
| | 14-A.__"Informant" means a person who volunteers material | information of law violations to law enforcement officers or | agencies. |
|
| | Sec. 2. 17-A MRSA §2, sub-§25 is enacted to read: |
|
| | 25.__"Witness" means a person who is present and personally | sees or perceives an event or has personal knowledge of a | material fact, whether or not that person is formally called or | listed as a witness. |
|
| | Sec. 3. 17-A MRSA §454, sub-§3-A is enacted to read: |
|
| | 3-A.__For purposes of this section, "victim" has the same | meaning as in section 1171, subsection 2. |
|
| | This bill defines the terms "witness" and "informant" under | the Maine Criminal Code. This bill also clarifies the term | "victim" for the crime of tampering with a witness, informant, | victim or juror. |
