contracts and provides coverage under those contracts for services
performed by certified nurse practitioners and certified nurse
midwives shall assign identification numbers to certified nurse
practitioners and certified nurse midwives that perform covered
services for individuals covered under those contracts.

 
2.__Submission of claim.__A claim submitted for payment to an
insurer by a health care provider or facility must include the
identification number required by subsection 1 of the certified
nurse practitioner or certified nurse midwife that provided the
service.

 
3.__Report to Superintendent of Insurance.__A health
maintenance organization subject to this section shall report its
experience related to services provided by certified nurse
practitioners and certified nurse midwives for each calendar year
to the Superintendent of Insurance not later than April 30th of
the following year.__The report must be in a form prescribed by
the superintendent and include the total amount of claims paid in
this State for the services of certified nurse practitioners and
certified nurse midwives, the amount of claims paid for
inpatient, outpatient and day treatment services and utilization
rates.__The superintendent shall compile this data for all health
maintenance organizations in an annual report.

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill requires that nonprofit hospital and medical service
organizations, health insurers and health maintenance
organizations assign identification numbers to certified nurse
practitioners and certified nurse midwives that provide services
under individual and group contracts. It also requires that
claims submissions include the identification numbers of any
certified nurse practitioner or certified nurse midwife that
provided services related to the claim. The bill further
requires that nonprofit hospital and medical service
organizations, health insurers and health maintenance
organizations file annual reports with the Superintendent of
Insurance outlining their experience related to services provided
by certified nurse practitioners and certified nurse midwives.
