Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §2056, sub-§4, as enacted by PL 1993, c. 683, Pt. A,
§2 and affected by Pt. B, §5, is amended to read:

 
4. Pedestrians in crosswalks. When traffic-control devices
are not in operation, an operator must yield the right-of-way to
a pedestrian crossing within a crosswalk or when the pedestrian
is on the same half of the way or approaching a crosswalk so
closely as to be in danger.

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill requires the operator of a motor vehicle to stop for
a pedestrian when that pedestrian is within any part of a
crosswalk that is not regulated by a traffic-control device.
