located in Cumberland County the costs of any equipment purchased
by that station to accomplish the enhanced motor vehicle inspection
required by the Maine Revised Statutes, former Title 29-A, section
1751, subsection 2-A in accordance with the procedure established
pursuant to this section.

 
1. As used in this section, the following terms have the
following meanings.

 
A. "Chief" means the Chief of the State Police or the
designee of the Chief of the State Police.

 
B. "Equipment" means equipment purchased by an inspection
station to enable the station to accomplish the enhanced
motor vehicle inspection required by former Title 29-A,
section 1751, subsection 2-A.

 
C. "Inspection station" means an official inspection
station located in Cumberland County.

 
D. "Program" means the reimbursement program described in
this section.

 
2. Within 30 days following the effective date of this Act,
the chief shall notify in writing all inspection stations of the
availability of the program.

 
3. Within 90 days following the notification provided
pursuant to subsection 2, any inspection station wishing to
participate in the program shall notify the chief of the cost of
the equipment purchased. All claims must be accompanied by a
copy of the receipt or other evidence of the purchase price
determined sufficient by the chief.

 
4. Only equipment that was purchased for the sole purpose of
enabling the inspection station to offer the enhanced inspection
required by former Title 29-A, section 1751, subsection 2-A is
eligible for reimbursement. If the chief determines that the
equipment may be used wholly for another purpose by the
inspection station in the inspection stations's regular course of
business, then no reimbursement may be provided. If the chief
determines that the equipment may be used partially for another
purpose by the inspection station in the inspection station's
regular course of business, then reimbursement may be provided
only for that portion of the cost of the equipment that is
unusable by the inspection station in its regular course of
business. The decision of the chief is final and no appeal may
be made.
