Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §1762, sub-§2, ¶¶G and H are enacted to read:

G.__The station, except for a fleet inspection station not engaged in retail work, must have legal and general liability insurance in an amount sufficient to protect the public determined by the Chief of the State Police by rule, which is a routine technical rule pursuant to Title 5, chapter 375, subchapter II-A.

H.__The station must have and display a valid sales tax registration certificate issued pursuant to Title 36, section 1754-B.__If the station is a corporation, it must have and display a federal tax identification number.

Sec. 2. 29-A MRSA §1762, sub-§9 is enacted to read:

9.__Inspection of station documents.__After October 1, 1999, an inspection station licensed pursuant to this section shall make available for inspection by the Chief of the State Police those documents required under subsection 2, paragraphs G and H.

SUMMARY

This bill requires a motor vehicle inspection station, except for a fleet inspection station not engaged in retail work, to have legal and general liability insurance and to have and display a valid sales tax registration certificate. If the station is a corporation, it must have and display a federal tax identification number.
