| | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows: |

| | | Sec. 1. 10 MRSA §1415-D, sub-§2 is enacted to read: |

| | | 2. Automated restrooms.__To promote the efficient use of | | energy and water resources, as well as to protect the public | | health and safety, any commercial or institutional building | | constructed after January 1, 2001 must be equipped with fully | | automated restroom facilities that do not require any human | | contact with the lavatory facilities or with the entrance and | | exit to the restroom. |

| | | Sec. 2. Standards and administration. The Department of Economic and | | Community Development shall establish and administer the | | standards and regulations necessary to fulfill the requirements | | of this Act in accordance with the provisions of the Maine | | Revised Statutes, Title 10, chapter 214, section 1415-E. |

| | | This bill requires that all new commercial or institutional | | buildings be equipped with automated restrooms. |
