| | | Sec. 1. 17-A MRSA §213 is enacted to read: |

| | | §213.__Transmission of a sexually transmitted disease |

| | | 1.__A person is guilty of the crime of transmission of a | | sexually transmitted disease if the person knows or has reason to | | believe that the person is infected with a sexually transmitted | | disease and the person intentionally, knowingly, recklessly or | | with criminal negligence transmits that sexually transmitted | | disease to another person. |

| | | 2.__Transmission of a sexually transmitted disease is a Class | | C crime. |

| | | This bill makes the transmission of a sexually transmitted | | disease a crime. A person who knows or has reason to believe | | that the person is infected with a sexually transmitted disease | | commits a Class C crime if that person transmits that sexually | | transmitted disease to another person intentionally, knowingly, | | recklessly or with criminal negligence. |
