Sec. 1. 30-A MRSA §1562, sub-§2-A is enacted to read:

2-A.__Processing fee.__Restitution may be imposed for the purpose of defraying the administrative costs associated with processing a prisoner for incarceration.__When restitution is imposed at a jail, a prisoner or a juvenile who is subject to that restitution and who is able to generate money from whatever source shall pay an administrative fee set by the county commissioners.

SUMMARY

This bill allows counties to recapture part of the cost of booking inmates.
