Sec. 1. 12 MRSA §7451, sub-§5 is enacted to read:

5.__Cage trap.__A person may use a cage trap for trapping bear pursuant to this subsection.

A.__A person may not have more than 2 traps set out at one time.

B.__A trap set must have the name and address of the trapper clearly printed and attached to the trap.

C.__A bear caught may not be used to train a dog for bear hunting.

D.__A bear caught must be killed prior to transporting.

E.__A trap must be checked at least once a day and, if a bear is found in the trap, the bear must be either humanely killed or released.

Sec. 2. 12 MRSA §7452, sub-§15, ķA-2 is enacted to read:

A-2.__Notwithstanding subsection 2, a person may use a cage trap to trap bear during the open season on bear.

SUMMARY

This bill allows a hunter to use cage traps to trap bear.
