| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows: |

| | Sec. 1. 12 MRSA c. 206-A, as amended, is repealed. |

| | Sec. 2. Commission report. By January 1, 2002, the Maine Land Use | Regulation Commission, in cooperation with the Department of | Environmental Protection, shall report to the Joint Standing | Committee on Natural Resources on recommendations for reassigning | the commission's responsibilities to the Department of | Environmental Protection. The report must contain proposed | legislation to effect that change. The Joint Standing Committee | on Natural Resources may report out legislation to the Second | Regular Session of the 120th Legislature. |

| | Sec. 3. Effective date. Section 1 of this Act takes effect October 1, | 2002. |
|
| | This bill eliminates the Maine Land Use Regulation Commission | effective October 1, 2002. The bill also directs the commission, | in cooperation with the Department of Environmental Protection, | to propose implementing legislation that reassigns its duties to | the department. |
