| | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows: |

| | | Sec. 1. Appropriation. The following funds are appropriated from | | the General Fund to carry out the purposes of this Act. |

| | | Provides for a one-time appropriation of | | $2,500,000 to expand the pool of funds | | available to expand benefits for elderly | | residents currently eligible for the Low- | | income Home Energy Assistance Program. It | | also provides for a one-time appropriation of | | $2,500,000 to expand benefits to elderly | | residents whose income is between 171% and | | 210% of the federal low-income guidelines for | | the State. |

| | | This bill appropriates $5,000,000 to expand the pool of funds | | available to assist elderly residents in paying their home | | heating bills. It requires that 1/2 of the appropriated funds be | | disbursed to elderly residents currently eligible for the Low- | | income Home Energy Assistance Program and that 1/2 of the | | appropriated funds be disbursed to elderly residents whose income | | is between 171% and 210% of the federal low-income guidelines for | | Maine. |
