| | Emergency preamble. Whereas, Acts and resolves of the Legislature do | not become effective until 90 days after adjournment unless | enacted as emergencies; and |

| | Whereas, the State's economy is slowing down; and |

| | Whereas, gasoline prices are rising; and |

| | Whereas, to provide immediate assistance to all the State's | citizens, this legislation needs to be an emergency; and |

| | Whereas, in the judgment of the Legislature, these facts create | an emergency within the meaning of the Constitution of Maine and | require the following legislation as immediately necessary for | the preservation of the public peace, health and safety; now, | therefore, be it |

| | Sec. 1. Decrease in gasoline tax. Resolved: That, beginning on the first | day of the month after the effective date of this resolve and | ending on May 25, 2001, the Department of Administrative and | Financial Services, Bureau of Revenue Services shall decrease the | excise tax on all grades of gasoline and diesel fuel by 10¢. |

| | Emergency clause. In view of the emergency cited in the preamble, | this resolve takes effect when approved. |

| | This resolve directs the Department of Administrative and | Financial Services, Bureau of Revenue Services to decrease the | excise tax on all grades of gasoline and diesel fuel by 10¢ | beginning on the first day of the month after the effective date | of this resolve and ending on May 25, 2001. |
