| | | Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §2385, sub-§4, as amended by PL 1999, c. 468, §4, is | | further amended to read: |

| | | 4. Trailers. A trailer or semitrailer that is wider than the | | vehicle towing it must be equipped with side mirrors that allow | | an unobstructed view of traffic approaching from the rear.__The | | trailer or semitrailer must also be equipped with reflective | | material or a lamp on each front corner that is visible to | | oncoming traffic. |

| | | Sec. 2. 29-A MRSA §2395, sub-§3-A is enacted to read: |

| | | 3-A.__Hazardous conditions.__It is unlawful for a vehicle | | consisting of more than 2 axles or a combination vehicle | | consisting of a 2-axle single unit truck operating in combination | | with a trailer with 2 or more axles to operate in the passing | | lane on any segment of the state highway system displaying a | | warning to reduce speed due to hazardous conditions. |

| | | This bill requires that a vehicle hauling a trailer or | | semitrailer that is wider than the vehicle towing it must be | | equipped with mirrors that allow an unobstructed view of | | approaching traffic. The bill also makes it unlawful for certain | | vehicles to operate in the passing lane when hazardous conditions | | exist. |
