1. For vehicles entering this State from the ports of entry in Madawaska, Van Buren, Houlton and Calais, the maximum weight limits must be those limits in effect in the Province of New Brunswick; and

2. For vehicles entering this State from the port of entry in Jackman, the maximum weight limits must be those limits in effect in the Province of Quebec; and be it further

Sec. 2. Fees for over-limit vehicles. Resolved: That the Department of Transportation shall establish a schedule of fees for over-limit vehicles traveling the routes designated pursuant to section 1. The fees must be based on the amount of additional maintenance to state roads that will be incurred by allowing over-limit vehicles on those roads.

SUMMARY

This resolve directs the Department of Transportation to designate routes that may be traveled by vehicles that exceed the weight limits established in the Maine Revised Statutes from ports of entry from the provinces of Quebec and New Brunswick to no more than 10 miles into Maine. The department is required to establish weight limits for those routes that correspond to the maximum weight limits of vehicles established in Quebec and New Brunswick. This resolve also requires the department to establish a fee schedule for those over-limit vehicles that takes into account the additional wear and tear on those routes by the over-limit vehicles.
