| | | Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §13405 is enacted to read: |

| | | §13405.__Updated minimum salaries |

| | | Starting with the 2001-2002 school year, each school | | administrative unit and state-operated school shall establish a | | minimum starting salary for certified teachers of $25,000 per | | year. |

| | | Sec. 2. 20-A MRSA §13511 is enacted to read: |

| | | §13511.__Additional payments 2001-2002 |
|
| | | Pursuant to the provisions of the teacher recognition grants | | described in this chapter, each school administrative unit and | | qualifying private school shall receive a block grant of $800 per | | teacher, to be used to supplement teacher salaries in accordance | | with the minimum salary requirement set forth in section 13405 | | and for other purposes related to teacher salaries, as locally | | determined. |
