Sec. 1. 32 MRSA §1402, as amended by PL 1983, c. 413, §55, is further amended by adding after the 2nd paragraph a new paragraph to read:

For purposes of this section, "solicitation" means any form of direct contact with a consumer, including direct mail, electronic mail or telephone marketing.__"Solicitation" does not include an instance in which the consumer makes the initial contact.

SUMMARY

This bill strengthens the law prohibiting solicitation of prearranged funerals and funeral business by strictly defining "solicitation."
