| | | Whereas, the current agreement between the State and the Maine | | State Troopers Association, State Police Unit expires on June 30, | | 2001; and |

| | | Whereas, current pay grades do not provide adequate compensation | | for state police officers; and |

| | | Whereas, in the judgment of the Legislature, these facts create | | an emergency within the meaning of the Constitution of Maine and | | require the following legislation as immediately necessary for | | the preservation of the public peace, health and safety; now, | | therefore, be it |

| | | Sec. 1. Minimum pay grade increase for state police officers established. Resolved: | | That the State, in its negotiations of a successor agreement to | | the current agreement between the State and the Maine State | | Troopers Association, State Police Unit, may not negotiate less | | than a pay grade increase for all covered employees equivalent to | | 4 grades from the grade level established by the current | | agreement, which expires June 30, 2001. |

| | | Emergency clause. In view of the emergency cited in the preamble, | | this resolve takes effect when approved. |

| | | This resolve requires that the State, in its negotiations of | | the successor agreement to the agreement between the State and | | the Maine State Troopers Association, State Police Unit expiring | | on June 30, 2001, may not negotiate less than a pay grade | | increase for all covered employees equivalent to 4 grades from | | the grade level established by the current agreement. |
