Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §101, sub-§35-A is enacted to read:

35-A.__Modified show vehicle; monster truck.__"Modified show vehicle" or "monster truck" means a factory-produced 2-wheel drive motor vehicle manufactured after 1949 that is equipped with modified components and that complies with standards adopted by the Chief of the State Police.

Sec. 2. 29-A MRSA §458-A is enacted to read:

§458-A.__Modified show vehicle; monster truck

1.__Modified show vehicle plates authorized.__Subject to the requirements of section 468, the Secretary of State may issue a registration plate for modified show vehicles.__This plate must bear the inscription "Maine" and the inscription "Modified Show Vehicle" or "Monster Truck."

2.__Modified show vehicle; monster truck.__The Chief of the State Police shall establish standards to qualify vehicles as modified show vehicles or monster trucks.__These standards include:

A.__The age of the vehicle;

B.__The equipment and its condition; and

C.__Permissible modifications.

3.__Fee.__The fee for a registration plate under this section is $6.

4.__Inspection standards.__The inspection standards for a modified show vehicle or monster truck are the same inspection standards used for a street rod.

SUMMARY

This bill defines "modified show vehicle" and "monster truck," allows the Secretary of State to provide a specialty plate for a modified show vehicle and specifies that the inspection standards for a street rod apply to a modified show vehicle.
