| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows: |

| | Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §101, sub-§35-A is enacted to read: |
|
| | 35-A.__Modified show vehicle; monster truck.__"Modified show | vehicle" or "monster truck" means a factory-produced 2-wheel | drive motor vehicle manufactured after 1949 that is equipped with | modified components and that complies with standards adopted by | the Chief of the State Police. |

| | Sec. 2. 29-A MRSA §458-A is enacted to read: |
|
| §458-A.__Modified show vehicle; monster truck |
|
| | 1.__Modified show vehicle plates authorized.__Subject to the | requirements of section 468, the Secretary of State may issue a | registration plate for modified show vehicles.__This plate must | bear the inscription "Maine" and the inscription "Modified Show | Vehicle" or "Monster Truck." |
|
| | 2.__Modified show vehicle; monster truck.__The Chief of the | State Police shall establish standards to qualify vehicles as | modified show vehicles or monster trucks.__These standards | include: |
|
| A.__The age of the vehicle; |
|
| B.__The equipment and its condition; and |
|
| C.__Permissible modifications. |
|
| | 3.__Fee.__The fee for a registration plate under this section | is $6. |
|
| | 4.__Inspection standards.__The inspection standards for a | modified show vehicle or monster truck are the same inspection | standards used for a street rod. |
|
| | This bill defines "modified show vehicle" and "monster truck," | allows the Secretary of State to provide a specialty plate for a | modified show vehicle and specifies that the inspection standards | for a street rod apply to a modified show vehicle. |
