Sec. 1. Regional depositories. Resolved: That the Secretary of State and
the University of Maine System, in consultation with
professionals with expertise in the preservation of documents,
shall develop a comprehensive plan providing for regional
depositories for rare books, manuscripts and vital records. The
plan must include an educational component that provides
assistance to libraries in protecting and preserving materials;
and be it further

 
Sec. 2. Report. Resolved: That the Secretary of State and the
University of Maine System shall submit a report along with any
recommended legislation to the Joint Standing Committee on
Education and Cultural Affairs by November 1, 2001.

 
SUMMARY

 
This resolve requires the Secretary of State and the
University of Maine System to develop a plan for designating
regional depositories for rare books, manuscripts and vital
records.
