| Sec. 1. Universal special retirement plan for law enforcement officers; report. |
| Resolved: That, not later than December 31, 2001, the Maine State |
| Retirement System shall report to the Joint Standing Committee on |
| Labor on the feasibility, advantages, disadvantages, cost |
| implications and other relevant information concerning the |
| establishment of a universal special retirement plan for law |
| enforcement officers. The report must evaluate the establishment |
| of a special retirement plan that is mandatory for all law |
| enforcement officers at the State, county and municipal level; |
| embodies a comprehensive definition of covered positions; |
| provides portability of benefits between different units and |
| levels of government law enforcement agencies; provides benefits |
| consistent and competitive with those of neighboring states; and |
| addresses transition options and issues for current officers. |
| Following receipt of the report, the committee may report out |
| related legislation to the Second Regular Session of the 120th |
| Legislature. |
