Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 34-A MRSA §3073
is enacted to read:
§3073.__Transportation to and from courts
Notwithstanding any other provision of law, transportation of
a prisoner between a correctional facility and a court in
connection with the prosecution of the prisoner for a crime
committed within a correctional facility is the responsibility of
the department.
SUMMARY
This bill relieves the counties of the responsibility of
transporting prisoners between a correctional facility and a
court when the transportation is in connection with the
prosecution of the prisoner for a crime committed within a
correctional facility. The bill requires the Department of
Corrections to transport such prisoners.
