SUMMARY

This bill is a concept draft pursuant to Joint Rule 208.

This bill proposes to clarify the governance structure and the funding mechanism of the Education Research Institute by:

1. Clearly defining the responsibility of the institute in collecting and analyzing education information and performing targeted education research for the Legislature;

2. Providing predictable, sustainable and adequate funding to support the purposes of the institute; and

3. Defining the roles and responsibilities of the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs and the institute's steering committee in developing the work plan of the institute.
