| | | Sec. 1. 38 MRSA §585-D, as amended by PL 1999, c. 582, §1, is | | repealed and the following enacted in its place: |

| | | §585-D.__New motor vehicle emission standards |
|
| | | The board shall adopt and enforce standards that meet the | | requirements of the federal Tier 2 motor vehicle emission | | standards and gasoline sulfur control requirements, as found in | | 40 Code of Federal Regulations, Parts 80 and 86.__Rules adopted | | pursuant to this section are routine technical rules as defined | | in Title 5, chapter 375, subchapter II-A. |

| | | This bill amends emission standards for new motor vehicles to | | make Maine's standards consistent with the latest federal | | standards. It requires the Board of Environmental Protection | | within the Department of Environmental Protection to adopt the | | same standards as the United States Environmental Protection | | Agency in its most recent rulemaking, the "Tier 2" standards. |
