Sec. 1. 7 MRSA §1, as amended by PL 1995, c. 693, §3, is further amended by adding at the end a new paragraph to read:

As used in this section, unless the context otherwise indicates, "agriculture" means all types of farming and includes, but is not limited to, the cultivation and tillage of the soil; dairying; the production, cultivation, growing and harvesting of any agricultural or horticultural commodities, including cultivated Christmas trees; the raising of livestock, bees, horses, deer and elk, poultry or furbearing animals; and any practices performed by a farmer or on a farm as incident to or in conjunction with farming operations, including preparation for market and delivery to storage, to market or to carriers for transportation to market.

SUMMARY

This bill defines "agriculture" in the laws establishing the Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Resources to mean all types of farming including the production of horticultural commodities.
