OPHTHALMIC DISPENSING ACT

§15401.__Short title

This chapter may be known and cited as the "Ophthalmic Dispensing Act."

§15402.__Definitions

As used in this chapter, unless the context otherwise indicates, the following terms have the following meanings.

1.__Board.__"Board" means the Ophthalmic Dispensing Board.

2.__Ophthalmic dispensing.__"Ophthalmic dispensing" means the design, verification and delivery to the intended wearer of spectacle lenses, frames and other specially fabricated optical appliances upon prescription.__It includes prescription analysis and interpretation; the taking of measurements to determine the size, shape and design of the spectacle lenses, frames or lens form best suited to the wearer's needs; the preparation and delivery of work orders to laboratory technicians engaged in grinding lenses and fabricating eyewear; the verification of the quality of finished ophthalmic products; the adjustment of spectacle lenses or frames to the intended wearer's face or eyes; and the adjustment, replacement, repair, reproduction and duplication of previously prepared spectacle lenses, frames or other specially fabricated ophthalmic appliances, not to include refracting.

3.__Prescription.__"Prescription" means a written or verbal direction from a licensed physician or optometrist for therapeutic or corrective lenses and consists of the refractive power and the vertex distance, cylinder axis and prism.
