Sec. 1. 7 MRSA §1808-A is enacted to read:

§1808-A.__Direct purchase of rabies vaccine

Notwithstanding section 1808, a person who owns livestock may purchase rabies vaccine directly from a pharmaceutical manufacturer or distributor.__An animal vaccinated against rabies by such a person may not be certified by a veterinarian as vaccinated against rabies.__As used in this section, the term "livestock" means cattle; dairy, feeding, beef or breeding animals; and sheep, goats, swine, horses, alpacas and llamas.

SUMMARY

This bill provides that a person who owns livestock may purchase rabies vaccine directly from a pharmaceutical manufacturer or distributor. An animal vaccinated against rabies by such a person may not be certified by a veterinarian as vaccinated against rabies.
