3.__Surcharge imposed.__In addition to the 12% surcharge collected pursuant to section 1057 and a 2% surcharge collected pursuant to section 1057-A, a 2% surcharge must be added to every fine, forfeiture and penalty imposed by any court in this State, which for the purposes of collection and collection procedures is considered a part of the fine, forfeiture or penalty.__All funds collected pursuant to this section must be deposited monthly in the Maine Computer Crimes Task Force Surcharge Fund.__All funds collected pursuant to this section must be paid to the Bureau of State Police for the sole purpose of funding the Maine Computer Crimes Task Force, except that the Judicial Department may incur reasonable expenses to implement the administration of the 2% surcharge.

4.__Report.__Beginning July 1, 2002, the Maine Computer Crimes Task Force shall make an annual report regarding development, implementation and effectiveness of programs and initiatives to the joint standing committee of the Legislature having jurisdiction over criminal justice matters.

SUMMARY

This bill creates the Maine Computer Crimes Task Force Surcharge Fund. The fund is established by collecting an additional 2% surcharge on every fine, forfeiture and penalty imposed by any court in the State. Funds collected through the additional surcharge must be paid to the Department of the Public Safety, Bureau of State Police to fund the Maine Computer Crimes Task Force.
