Sec. 1. 12 MRSA §7457, sub-§4 is enacted to read:

4.__First-time hunters.__Notwithstanding any other provision of this chapter, if a person has never held a deer hunting license issued under section 7101, for the first year of the person's first deer hunting license issued under section 7101, a person may take an antlered or antlerless deer during an open season under subsection 1.__This subsection does not apply to a person who has tagged a deer pursuant to subsection 2.

SUMMARY

This bill allows a person who has never taken a deer and who holds an original deer hunting license to take a deer of either sex during open season for deer in the first year that the person holds a license, until the person tags the person's first deer.
