| | | Emergency preamble. Whereas, Acts of the Legislature do not become | | effective until 90 days after adjournment unless enacted as | | emergencies; and |

| | | Whereas, to ensure the efficient and effective resolution of | | workers' compensation hearings, this Act must take effect | | immediately; and |

| | | Whereas, in the judgment of the Legislature, these facts create | | an emergency within the meaning of the Constitution of Maine and | | require the following legislation as immediately necessary for | | the preservation of the public peace, health and safety; now, | | therefore, |

| | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows: |
|
| | | Sec. 1. Workers' Compensation Board; full-time hearing officer. The Workers' | | Compensation Board shall permanently assign a full-time | | administrative hearing officer to the Caribou office of the | | Workers' Compensation Board no later than 30 days after the | | effective date of this Act. This assignment must be implemented | | within the board's existing budgeted resources. |

| | | Emergency clause. In view of the emergency cited in the preamble, | | this Act takes effect when approved. |

| | | This bill requires the Workers' Compensation Board to | | permanently assign a full-time administrative hearing officer to | | the Caribou office no later than 30 days after the effective date | | of the bill and to implement this assignment within existing | | budgeted resources. |
