HEALTH CARE TRAINING AND CAREERS

§12741.__Definitions

As used in this chapter, unless the context otherwise indicates, the following terms have the following meanings.

1.__Board of trustees.__"Board of trustees" means the board of trustees of the system.

2.__President of the system.__"President of the system" means the President of the Maine Technical College System.

3.__System.__"System" means the Maine Technical College System.

4.__Underserved community.__"Underserved community" means a geographical area having a shortage of health care workers as determined by the president of the system and the board of trustees.

§12742.__Health Careers Incentive Program

1.__Establishment.__The president of the system shall develop and administer the Health Careers Incentive Program.__The program is designed to award scholarships to students pursuing careers in the field of health care who agree to work in an underserved community for a period of 2 years for each year of scholarship, commencing after the student has fulfilled all graduation requirements.__The president of the system shall establish criteria for:

A.__Selecting communities in need of health care workers;

B.__Selecting particular areas of health care that are in need of workers; and

C.__Student eligibility requirements, using section 12716 as a guide.

§12743.__Health Workforce Retraining Program

The president of the system shall establish the Health Workforce Retraining Program for the purpose of making grants
