Sec. 1. 22 MRSA §258 is enacted to read:

§258.__Medical claims administration

The department may not develop or purchase a claims processing system for the administration of medical claims under the Medicaid program unless the department demonstrates that the development and use of the system would result in actual overall cost savings to the State.

SUMMARY

The Department of Human Services is considering development of an in-house capability to process medical claims. The bill requires the Department of Human Services to demonstrate that development of such a system would result in cost savings to the State.
