This bill includes General Fund appropriations of $11,550 and
$24,986 in fiscal years 2001-02 and 2002-03, respectively, for
the Bureau of Capitol Security within the Department of Public
Safety to cover the costs of required training at the Maine
Criminal Justice Academy and for the costs of reclassifications
for employees who will be assigned different duties as a result
of their training.

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill exempts from the full-time law enforcement officer
training requirements the State Fire Marshal and the Department
of Public Safety's Chief of the Bureau of Liquor Enforcement.
The bill also exempts from the full-time law enforcement officer
training requirements the Department of Public Safety's director
of capitol security or security officers who are hired on or
before May 1, 2001. A director or security officer hired after

 
May 1, 2001 is not exempt from the training requirements. A
director or security officer hired on or before May 1, 2001 may
choose to attend the full-time law enforcement officer training
course before July 15, 2005. The Department of Public Safety
shall pay for that training. This bill includes an appropriation
section.
