Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §2554, sub-§1, as enacted by PL 1993, c. 683, Pt. A,
§2 and affected by Pt. B, §5, is amended to read:

 
1. Petition for relief. After one year 3 years from the date
of revocation, a person may petition for relief from habitual
offender status. The petition must be presented to the Secretary
of State.

 
Sec. 2. 29-A MRSA §2556, sub-§2, as amended by PL 1999, c. 641, §1, is
further amended to read:

 
2. Petition. An habitual offender whose license has been
revoked pursuant to section 2552 may petition the Secretary of
State for a work-restricted license only after the expiration of
8 months 2 years from the date the license was revoked pursuant
to section 2552.

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill increases the period of driver license revocation
for habitual motor vehicle offenders from one year to 3 years and
provides that certain habitual offenders may petition for a work-
restricted license following 2 years of license revocation.
