Sec. 1. Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife; Department of Marine Resources;
Atlantic Salmon Commission; abolished. Resolved: That effective 90 days
after the adjournment of the Second Regular Session of the
121st Legislature, the Department of Inland Fisheries and
Wildlife, the Department of Marine Resources and the Atlantic
Salmon Commission are abolished; and be it further

 
Sec. 2. Plan and legislation submitted. Resolved: That the Commissioner of
Administrative and Financial Services shall, in consultation
with the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, the
Department of Marine Resources and the Atlantic Salmon
Commission, develop and submit to the Legislature by November
1, 2003 legislation that accomplishes the following:

 
1. Reorganizes the Department of Inland Fisheries and
Wildlife, the Department of Marine Resources and the Atlantic
Salmon Commission into a single Department of Fisheries and
Wildlife with the same responsibilities and duties as the
current departments and commissions;

 
2. Amends relevant laws to conform to the reorganization;

 
3. Provides a budget for the new department; and

 
4. Specifies all positions that will be eliminated or
reclassified.

 
SUMMARY

 
This resolve accomplishes the following:

 
1. Abolishes the Department of Inland Fisheries and
Wildlife, the Department of Marine Resources and the Atlantic
Salmon Commission 90 days after the adjournment of the Second
Regular Session of the 121st Legislature; and

 
2. Requires the Commissioner of Administrative and
Financial Services, in consultation with the Department of
Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, the Department of Marine
Resources and the Atlantic Salmon Commission, to develop and
submit to the Legislature by November 1, 2003 legislation that
reorganizes the 3 agencies into a new Department of Fisheries
and Wildlife.
