| | | Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §2081, sub-§4, ķE, as amended by PL 1997, c. 450, | | §3, is repealed. |

| | | Current law prohibits the enforcement of the seat belt law | | unless the driver has been stopped for a violation of a law | | other than failing to wear a seat belt. |
|
| | | This bill repeals that prohibition, allowing a police | | officer to detain and cite a vehicle operator or passenger 18 | | years of age or older solely for failing to wear a seat belt. |
