| | | Sec. 1. 23 MRSA §1351, as amended by PL 1985, c. 506, Pt. B, §19, | | is further amended by adding after the 3rd paragraph a new | | paragraph to read: |

| | | Where there is a clearly marked crosswalk not located at an | | intersection, a municipality, at its own expense, may erect a | | sign indicating that there is a crosswalk and that traffic | | must stop when pedestrians are present on the crosswalk.__The | | Department of Transportation shall adopt rules establishing | | the appropriate construction, installation and dimensions of | | these signs.__Rules adopted pursuant to this paragraph are | | routine technical rules as defined in Title 5, chapter 375, | | subchapter 2-A. |

| | | This bill permits municipalities to install stop signs in | | crosswalks that are not located at an intersection. The | | Department of Transportation is directed to establish rules | | regarding the appropriate construction, installation and | | dimensions of the signs. |
