Sec. 1. 5 MRSA §20043, sub-§1, as amended by PL 1991, c. 601, §20, is further amended to read:

1. Voluntary basis. People Except as provided in section 20044-A, people must be treated on a voluntary basis.

Sec. 2. 5 MRSA §20044-A is enacted to read:

§20044-A.__Services for minors

The office shall provide services for a minor upon request of the minor or the minor's parent.__If services are provided upon request of the parent, the level of service must be at least as intensive as the level of services provided on a voluntary basis under section 20043, subsection 1 as appropriate to the individual minor.

SUMMARY

This bill allows the Department of Behavioral and Developmental Services to provide alcohol and drug treatment services to a minor on the request of the parent or the minor. It requires services provided upon request of the parent to be as intensive as services provided voluntarily, as appropriate to the minor.
