Sec. 1. 12 MRSA §7406, sub-§4, as enacted by PL 1979, c. 420, §1, is amended to read:

4. Hunting on Sunday. A person nonresident is guilty of hunting on Sunday if he the nonresident hunts wild animals or wild birds on Sunday.

Sec. 2. 12 MRSA §7945, first ¶, as amended by PL 1997, c. 432, §58, is further amended to read:

Possession of hunting equipment by a nonresident in the fields or forests or on the waters or ice in the State or in a motor vehicle being operated on an unpaved highway or road located in an unorganized township on Sunday is prima facie evidence of a violation of section 7406, subsection 4, unless:

SUMMARY

Under current law, hunting is prohibited on Sundays. This bill specifies that the Sunday hunting prohibition applies only to nonresidents, thus allowing residents of the State to hunt on Sundays.
