Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §4722, sub-§7 is enacted to read:

7.__Special education diploma.__Notwithstanding other provisions of this section, the department shall authorize the awarding of special education secondary school diplomas to exceptional students as defined in section 7001 who have attended secondary schools and met the goals of their independent plans established through special education programs as defined in section 7001.__The department may adopt routine technical rules pursuant to Title 5, chapter 375, subchapter 2-A to implement this section.

SUMMARY

This bill directs the Department of Education to authorize special education secondary school diplomas.
