Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 12 MRSA §7552, sub-§5-A, ¶C, as amended by PL 2001, c. 387,
§27, is further amended to read:

 
C. Whenever the last day of open-water fishing season
falls on a Saturday, the season is extended one day to
include the following Sunday; and

 
Sec. 2. 12 MRSA §7552, sub-§5-A, ¶D, as amended by PL 1999, c. 319,
§1, is further amended to read:

 
D. The commissioner by rule may extend the open-water
fishing season as long as such an extension does not pose
a threat to the fishery. Rules adopted under this
paragraph may include provisions that establish catch-
and-release-only restrictions on landlocked salmon, trout,
togue and bass.; and

 
Sec. 3. 12 MRSA §7552, sub-§5-A, ¶E is enacted to read:

 
E.__And any rule prohibiting the taking of smelt adopted
by the commissioner, smelt fishing by use of a dip net is
allowed on that part of Long Lake and its tributaries in
Township 17, Range 3, Aroostook County.__The bag limit is
2 quarts per person.

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill allows smelt fishing by use of a dip net on that
part of Long Lake and its tributaries in Township 17, Range 3,
Aroostook County. The bill also sets the bag limit at 2
quarts per person.
