Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §105, sub-§5 is enacted to read:

5.__Motorcycles.__A law enforcement officer may not engage in a high-speed chase of the operator of a motorcycle unless that officer has reasonable and articulable suspicion to believe that a murder or a Class A, B or C crime has been committed or is being committed or other means of stopping the operator are not available.

SUMMARY

This bill provides that a law enforcement officer may not engage in a high-speed chase of the operator of a motorcycle unless that officer has reasonable and articulable suspicion to believe that a murder or a Class A, B or C crime has been committed or is being committed or other means of stopping the operator are not available.
