Sec. 1. 24-A MRSA §2902-H is enacted to read:

§2902-H. Discounted premiums for vehicles equipped with safety

devices

1.__Discount; approved safety devices.__Any rates, rating schedules or rating manuals for the liability, personal injury protection and collision coverages of a commercial motor vehicle insurance policy submitted to or filed with the bureau must provide for an appropriate discount in premium charges for such coverages if the vehicle is equipped with a safety device approved by the bureau under subsection 2.

2.__Approval by bureau.__A person who has developed a safety device shall apply to the bureau for approval of that safety device for use in a commercial motor vehicle.__On an annual basis, the bureau shall make public a list of approved safety devices.

3.__Rules.__The bureau shall adopt rules to develop criteria to evaluate and approve safety devices for use in commercial motor vehicles.__Rules adopted pursuant to this subsection are routine technical rules as defined in Title 5, chapter 375, subchapter 2-A.

SUMMARY

This bill requires insurers to offer an appropriate discount on commercial motor vehicle insurance coverage for commercial vehicles equipped with safety devices approved by the Bureau of Insurance.
