| | | Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §1910, as enacted by PL 1993, c. 683, Pt. A, §2 | | and affected by Pt. B, §5, is repealed and the following | | enacted in its place: |

| | | §1910.__Rules governing lights on vehicles; replacement |
|
| | | 1.__Replacement.__The Chief of the State Police shall adopt | | rules governing the replacement of exterior lights on | | passenger vehicles.__The rules may not be more restrictive | | than the requirements specified in the federal motor vehicle | | safety standards regarding the sale, installation and use of | | aftermarket replacement lighting equipment as long as that | | equipment meets the federal motor vehicle safety standards. |

| | | 2.__Adjustment, use and operation.__Except as required in | | subsection 1, the Chief of the State Police may adopt rules | | governing the adjustment, use and operation of lights on | | vehicles. |

| | | 3.__Rulemaking.__Rules adopted pursuant to this section are | | routine technical rules as defined in Title 5, chapter 375, | | subchapter 2-A. |

| | | This bill requires the Chief of the State Police within the | | Department of Public Safety to adopt routine technical rules | | regarding the replacement of exterior lights on passenger | | vehicles. The rules may not be more restrictive than those | | requirements specified in the federal motor vehicle safety | | standards. |
