Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. 22 MRSA §2767 is enacted to read:

§2767.__Amendment of certificate of birth following proof of

parentage

The state registrar shall amend a certificate of birth to
accurately reflect the identity of the biological parents of the
subject of the certificate of birth for a subject born in this
State when the state registrar receives proof based on testing of
deoxyribonucleic acid, DNA, that a person is a biological parent
of the subject of the certificate of birth and receives written
consent from that biological parent.

SUMMARY

This bill provides that the state registrar shall amend a
certificate of birth to accurately reflect the identity of the
biological parents of the subject of the certificate of birth for
a subject born in this State when the state registrar receives
proof based on testing of deoxyribonucleic acid, DNA, that a
person is a biological parent of the subject of the certificate
of birth and receives written consent from that biological
parent.
